Josef Bolf is one of the most respected Czech painters of his generation. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague (1990–1998), at Kongsthögskolan, Stockholm (1995) and in the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart (1996). From 1996 to 2002 he was a member of the art group Bezhlavý jezdec. His canvases and prints are often characterised by a melancholic, lonely suffering figures and depressing atmosphere. Bolf’s work has close ties with literature. He is the author of several comic books and puppet films. His works are currently featured at a solo exhibition Melancholy of the Outer Limits at the DOX.
