PORTRAIT OF A WRITER AS A READER

Alberto Manguel, Ali Kazma, Petr Vizina

On reading to Borges, libraries at night, the healing effects of literature, and the fate of one 40-000-volume personal library. World-renowned writer, critic, and essayist Alberto Manguel has dedicated his life to promoting the importance of reading. His love affair with books began at an early age, and already during his studies in Buenos Aires he would often associate with some of the finest minds of his time. The first of them was Jorge Louis Borges, to whom Manguel would read aloud as a teenager. Throughout his life, Manguel has shared his love of reading with his readers, and he has also recently decided to share his monumental personal library and make it accessible to all. This endeavour has been followed by artist Ali Kazma, whose poetic film portrait Alberto in Lisbon will premiere at the FALL festival.
